Brian was one of our first members, joining us just a few months after we opened. Like a lot of you, he finally convinced his wife Stacey to start with us soon after he did. Although he&#8217;s not quite as color-coordinated as Stacey, they&#8217;ve been two of our most dedicated members, whether it&#8217;s participating in our various fundraising events, being on our Open Team, or taking photos at our throwdowns and supporting everyone at 203. Brian has stepped up his training of late, and has added extra lifting sessions at home, which is a perfect example of his dedication to fitness. Although he has a hectic work schedule at times, Brian will find a way to get to the box, whether it&#8217;s morning, noon or evening classes.   </p>
<p><strong>Name:  </strong>Brian Smith</p>
<p><strong>When did you start CrossFit:</strong> March 2011</p>
<p><strong>Why did you start CrossFit?: </strong>  The question is, why didn’t I start CF years ago? I started CrossFit to “get fit”.  Little did I know it would become an obsession. But, looking back over the last 2 years I realize that the “being fit” part is only a bonus to all the great friends and coaches you meet along the way.  I love that we all experience this pain together! I can’t wait to see where CrossFit will bring us in the next 5-10 years.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite Lift:</strong> Overhead Squats and the Olympic Lifts</p>
<p><strong>Favorite WOD:</strong> Nancy or Elizabeth</p>
<p><strong>Least Favorite Lift:</strong> I really don’t have a “Least Favorite” but my weakest are Back Squats or Front Squats. I’m envious of people that can load a ton weight on the bar and knock out reps like it’s nothing.</p>
<p><strong>Least Favorite WOD:</strong> I don’t think I’m alone on this one but probably Karen.  I don’t mind wall ball but I find it funny they made a WOD where you throw a ball up at a target 150 times.</p>
<p><strong>Greateast CrossFit Achievement so far:</strong>  Getting my wife started.  “ Couples that WOD together stay together!&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>CrossFit Goal for 2013: </strong> Stay healthy and to be stronger than 2012.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite song/music to WOD to:</strong> Anything loud, heavy, 120 bpm.</p>
<p><strong>One interesting thing about yourself not related to CrossFit:</strong> This is hard.  Everything seems to come back to crossfit some how.  (It’s like 6 degrees of CrossFit.) I wish people could experience and see what I see out my office window everyday (see video below).  I get to fly a lot of interesting people around. Here are two VIP’s (Monica and Nuno) waiting for their ride.  I got to fly them home from the city last summer.</p>
<p><strong>Complete the sentence, “CrossFit should….”</strong> be the stepping stone you need to enjoy life.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Here’s what you need to know for the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday schedule. We will hold all regularly scheduled classes through the weekend. On Monday, Memorial Day, we will host ONE BIG team WOD at 9:30 am. We’ll celebrate with some cold beer afterwards if anyone wants to stick around! </p>
<p>The workout will be the ‘Trevor Win’E Memorial WOD’ honoring Army Specialist Trevor Anthony Win&#8217;E, of Orange County, Californiawho died May 1, 2004 from injuries sustained by an IED attack while serving in Iraq. This will be a great training WOD for those of you interested in taking on ‘Murph’ which is scheduled for this 4<sup>th</sup> of July! </p>
<p><strong>Trevor Win’E<br />
</strong>In teams of 4 complete:</p>
<p>300 pullups<br />
400 pushups<br />
500 sit-ups<br />
600 squats</p>
<p>Only 2 team members can work at a time, and the team must complete all reps of one movement before moving on to the next. There will be a scaled version of this workout as well, hope to see a big turnout! </p>
<p>Also, remember that we have a new Thursday 7 pm class. It was packed last week, so let’s keep it going!</p>

<p>A lot of our members here at CrossFit 203 are business owners, or involved in a business, or know someone who is AWESOME at his or her job. In a continuing effort to take care of each other, we are putting up a cork board in the club room. Our goal is to have all of you put your (or your spouse&#8217;s) business card on the board.</p>
<p>So, if you need a good plumber in the Danbury area, maybe a business card on the board will let you know who to call. Need a good massage or haircut? Tires? Landscaper? Photographer? Realtor? Workout gear? Physical Therapist <img src='http://crossfit203.com/wordpress/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> ? Grass-fed beef? Bacon!? Hopefully you can find it here, recommended by someone at the box.</p>
<p>We are a growing community with a ton of folks from all walks of life.  Let’s support each other not only in the gym but in our endeavors outside the gym!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Regionals weekend was a blast!  The weather was great, the athletes were amazing to watch, and the crowds were unbelievable!  Reebok did a fantastic job constructing a huge arena and massive bleachers for spectators.  For anyone who was unable to attend, go to the Games site to check out archived footage of some of the final heats. <p>Just like every year at Regionals, we left inspired by the athletes who competed, and fired up and ready to train for the coming year. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Reminder that this Thursday (tomorrow) we will officially add another 7 pm class to the schedule! Be there!</p>
<p>We will have a normal schedule for Thursday and Friday, but we will be CLOSED all weekend.  All of our coaches will either be up in Canton,MA at Reebok Headquarters for the Northeast Regional, or out of town. </p>
<p>The top 48 men and women, and top 30 teams will face off for one of three coveted spots to the CrossFit Games. It promises to be the biggest Regional event the Northeast has seen yet! If you are around this weekend, try and get up there! We’ll have a tent set up in tent city, just look for our 203 banner. Bring your own chair, food and drinks to hang out between events. If you can’t make it, tune into the CrossFit Games site Sunday afternoon for live streaming of the final event. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>CrossFit often gets the stigma ‘Cult’.  A recent email from a newbie stated, “Everyone seemed nice and not at all cult like and uber competitive monsters like I had imagined”.  Haha. We’ll take the compliment. A picture that was posted on facebook of our ladies out to dinner quickly received a comment that just read, “cult”.  </p>
<p>We went to the authority on internet searches (Wikipedia of course) for the definition of ‘cult’.  There it stated that ‘Cults are a group whose beliefs or practices are considered abnormal or bizarre by the larger society.’</p>
<p>What is it exactly that we CrossFitters believe?  We believe in demanding more of ourselves, physically and emotionally. We believe in supporting our community and having fun getting fit. We believe in hard work and earning your keep. Oh, and we believe McDonalds is not food. It’s something, but we’re still not sure what.  </p>
<p>Maybe some of these ideals are foreign or extreme to most of society. Seems sad to us. I could go on and on with what is “normal” these days and how we differ, but this post might become a novel.</p>
<p>We have seen this cult called CrossFit bring together some of the most amazing and hard-working folks we have ever met. While we do still have plenty of friends who don’t CrossFit, who do we end up spending most of our time with? YOU.   </p>

<p>We think a lot of people join CrossFit because they want a quick fix. Like, poof, you can be ripped and fit overnight. Those aren’t the people who stay with CrossFit, however. Those are the people who try CrossFit for a week, then Planet Fitness, then some boot camp, then a kettle bell class, then a swimming class, followed by every diet in the book….and on and on and on, constantly looking for something that will change them immediately. Such a thing, of course, doesn’t exist. These are the people who aren’t willing to work for their goals.</p>
<p>The people who stick with CrossFit are those of us who are willing to work….not just RIGHT now, but for the long haul. It’s for people who are willing to change….not just RIGHT now, but a <em>lifestyle </em>change.</p>
<p>Don’t get us wrong, this stuff works fast…..just not in an hour or a day. You actually have to stick with this, in conjunction with other changes to your lifestyle, depending on who you are and what your goals are.</p>
<p>What’s your decision?</p>
<p>Let’s get to work.</p>
